Hexion Specialty Chemicals Standardizes on Supply Chain Solution

Chemical company Hexion Specialty Chemicals has signed a global licensing agreement to standardize the company's supply chain decision support on the Zemeter suite of supply chain management (SCM) software products and services from Supply Chain Consultants.

Based in Columbus, Ohio, Hexion is the world's largest producer of binder, adhesive, coating and ink resins for industrial applications. The company serves the global wood and industrial markets through a range of thermoset technologies, specialty products and technical support. Hexion employs approximately 7,000 people globally.

The latest agreement with SCC will expand Hexion's use of Zemeter for demand planning and inventory control across the company's supply chain.

"Hexion has undergone dramatic restructuring and growth over the past year, which has in turn affected the company's supply chain," said Paul Johnson, Hexion's vice president of global supply chain plan processes. "As Supply Chain Consultants supported our increased use of Zemeter for demand planning and inventory control across multiple facilities, Zemeter was the natural choice as a universal platform for Hexion's supply chain management."

Hexion began working with Supply Chain Consultants (SCC) in 2001 when the company was Borden Chemical. In 2005 Borden Chemical merged with Resolution Performance Products LLC (RPP) and Resolution Specialty Materials LLC (RSM) (together with Bakelite AG, which Borden Chemical acquired) to form Hexion Specialty Chemicals.

The chemical company already is using Zemeter Demand Planning extensively at the facilities that support the former Borden Chemical customers, and SCC has created additional databases within Zemeter to support the expanded operations of Hexion.

SCC said that Zemeter provides a spectrum of product functionality, including demand planning, inventory planning, finite scheduling, production optimization, margin optimization and business intelligence. The Zemeter software suite uses a Microsoft environment and can increase supply chain visibility to help manufacturers gain control of the supply chain and create a strategic business advantage, the solution provider said.
