Bayer Environmental Science has received registration from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for Allectus™ SC. Allectus is the only product available providing lawn care professionals, golf course superintendents (as Allectus SC GC) and sports turf managers with unprecedented control of turf pests both above and below the surface.
The company received registration for the granular formulation, Allectus G, in November of 2004. Registration for Allectus on fertilizer is pending.
"Now that registration for Allectus SC is approved, customers can select a formulation that fits their needs," remarked Dr. Mike Ruizzo, business manager, imidacloprid insecticides at Bayer Environmental Science. "Whether they prefer to apply Allectus as a granular or liquid, customers will experience operational benefits and cost-savings that can be directly attributed to the use of this product."
Lawn care professionals, golf course superintendents, and sports turf managers in certain areas of the country deal with both grub and surface insect control to varying degrees. In the North the primary pest concern is grubs with fluctuating surface insect pressure. The opposite is true in the South where the primary concern is surface insects but grub pressure is on the increase. In both regions of the country, Allectus provides a single product solution for insects above and below the surface.
Allectus controls the following pests:
* White grubs, including larvae of:
o Japanese beetle
o Black turfgrass ataenius
o Northern masked chafer
o Southern masked chafer
o European chafer
o Oriental beetle
o Green June beetle
* Billbug larvae
* Annual bluegrass weevil larvae
* Mole crickets
* Chinch bugs
* Cutworms
* Sod webworms
* Fire ants
* More than 25 additional surface feeding insects
Allectus was tested extensively throughout the United States by more than 30 university cooperators, independent consultants and Bayer Environmental Science researchers during the past two years.
"Allectus creates a new product category of broad-spectrum grub and surface insect control. There's nothing else like it on the market," explained Ruizzo."Our strategic partnership with FMC offers customers the combined power of two trusted products like Merit and Talstar."
Imidacloprid, branded by Bayer Environmiental Science as Merit, has been the industry leading insecticide product for grub control for the last 10 years. Bifenthrin, commonly known by FMC Corporation's brand name Talstar, is the top general insect control product offering control of chinchbugs, sod webworms, cutworms, armyworms and more than 75 other pests.
The SC formulation is labeled for both soil and foliar applications. For residential properties, Allectus SC has 0.81 pounds of active ingredient per gallon.For golf courses, Allectus SC GC has 0.63 pounds of active ingredient per gallon. Refer to label for applications rates. One application can provide up to 12 weeks of residual control.
