CHEMICAL FEARS GROW OVER BLAZE

A Fire in a Pershore factory sparked fears of a chemical alert yesterday.Several people working in buildings next to Alstom T &D Service were evacuated as a precaution by Hereford and Worcester Fire Service.

Six fire engines and a specialist chemical firefighting unit were sent to the scene at the Keytec 7 Business Park at 12.40pm.

Firefighters were worried that pest control and agricultural chemicals stored in the building might have been involved in the blaze.

But West Mercia police said the incident was later downgraded and no one was injured.

Spokesman Richard Bull said the cause of the fire was not known but was not being treated as suspicious.
